My name is Michelle Kim and I am currently a senior (class of 2025) double majoring in the College of East Asian Studies and Psychology at Wesleyan University. As a daughter of immigrants who was born and raised in an ethnic enclave of many other fellow Korean Americans and Asian Americans, coming to Wesleyan was a cultural adjustment. I have been able to find and grow a community through the Korean Students Association and other initiatives while also inviting and welcoming others into this circle.

I am currently writing a senior thesis in the College of East Asian Studies about Japanese and Korean women’s speculative fiction, precarity, and futurity! When not busy with school, leading KSA, reading and writing for my thesis, I enjoy watching K-dramas on Netflix, looking for new songs on Spotify, and reading webtoons. (I also love to eat familiar foods and try out new dishes!)

True to my love for food and trying new cuisines (as I have demonstrated through teaching a student forum on Asian American foodways), here I am pictured, very happy, and very full, at a “Fish Cheeks,” a Thai restaurant in NYC.
